Grandma Huhn’s Spice Cookie

Ingredient

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup lard (do not substitute oil or Crisco)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon allspice
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 6 1/2 cups flour

Directions

  1. Cream sugars and lard together.
  2. Mix in the remaining ingredients, adding the flour last.
  3. **We usually place dough in floured freezer bags and freeze for 2 weeks to let the spices intensify or you can immediately roll out, cut and bake at 350 F for 7-10 minutes.

    I am making these and finding the directions are not complete. My dough is very sticky probably needing more flour. I cannot get the dough in a bag to freeze. Are they roll outside using a cutter or drop? Too little information and no video to help. If you can answer my concerns that would be helpful. Otherwise I’ll just PUNT! Cannot rate yet.

    I’m in agreement with martha. Something is wrong. I’ve made them twice using less flour the second time and still the same result. I think it would be a good cookie but something is wrong with the recipe. My cookies are light and fluffy, not a strong spice flavor. Thy don’t lookanything like the picture.tom
